![]() BLUE ASHBlue Ash was listed in the two most recent editions of "50 Fabulous Places To Raise Your Family" and continues to live up to that reputation. The city is located just 12 miles northeast of downtown Cincinnati for an easy commute. Residents especially enjoy the summer activities at the expanded recreational center that is offered for a nominal membership fee. From the water slides at the huge outdoor pool to the array of tennis courts, there is something for every member of the family. There is also an inside gym and work-out facilities. Classes are held year round. There is also a large family YMCA in Blue Ash, just off Kenwood Road. The Blue Ash Golf Course has also been honored as one of the best municipal courses around. Blue Ash residents can get preferential tee times. Nearby is the Sycamore Senior Center and for the younger residents off of Grooms Rd. is a 10-field baseball park with a replica of old Crosley Field. There are free weekly concerts by the Blue Ash pops orchestra or local oldies groups during the summer. The culmination of a long day of picnicking on the Fourth of July is an excellent fireworks display that brings people from near and far to set up their lawn chairs. The Taste of Blue Ash is one of several outdoor festivals held during the summer months. Restaurants from the area set up booths to serve up their tasty delights while the city provides first-class free entertainment by big-name performers. This occurs near the corner of Kenwood and Cooper roads, at the Towne Square and Bicentennial Veterans Memorial Park. The Blue Ash area is served by the "Excellent" rated Sycamore School District. There are about 5,800 students served by over 500 teachers. The local Blue Ash Elementary School near Raymond Walters College (an extension of The University of Cincinnati) on Plainfield Rd just opened in 2002. The old school was located on Kenwood Road. The library is located on Cooper Road just across from the 45242 post office. Just minutes down Kenwood Road is the Kenwood Towne Center Mall, a huge and expanding upscale shopping facility that just added the area's first Cheesecake Factory restaurant. This suburb claims 13,000 residents living in about 7.7 square miles. During the day there are 70,000 who work in about 2,000 businesses in Blue Ash, so you can see it is a very business-friendly city. There are multiple Procter & Gamble facilities, a large Fidelity Investments office, and Johnson & Johnson has a large Ethicon facility in Blue Ash. The city was settled in 1791 and incorporated in 1961. There is a governing council and a city manager. There are 37 full-time police and 25 full-time firefighters keeping the citizens safe. The city charges residents a 1 per cent earnings tax and offers free waste collection and recycling. In recent years Blue Ash has developed a sister city relationship with Ilmenau, Gemany. In the works presently is a city history museum in the building known as Hunt House. Housing choices vary from older and smaller brick Cape Cod "starter" houses to affordable family-size two story homes adjacent to the recreation center in Ravenwood Subdivision, to the more glamorous large custom homes of Carpenters Run adjacent to the golf course. There are also ten condominium projects in Blue Ash.
